Andy Riley: Storage and Virtualisation IT Consultancy
With a Physics degree from Reading University, Andy has been working in IT Consultancy for 18 years and in that time has amassed knowledge of and expertise on many different technologies. Even by IT Consultancy standards Andy is a techie’s techie driven by a love for IT in general and enterprise computing in particular.
Andy started his IT Consultancy career at Morse in the late 1990s where he was an HP9000 and HP-UX specialist. This IT Consultancy grounding in enterprise UNIX gave him the understanding of high availability systems that would be the basis for his expertise with VMWare vSphere later in his career. The early 2000s saw Andy continuing his IT Consultancy HP9000 career working for HP themselves as a solutions architect for the public sector division. Here Andy oversaw some of HP’s largest IT Consultancy deals for the military and health sectors including some for the Ministry of Defence and the Defence Logistics Organisation. At HP Andy was able to diversify in to virtualisation technologies on HP Proliant servers and blades. Virtualisation became Andy’s IT Consultancy specialist area and he became one of the first VCP certified consultants in the UK – a certification that he maintains today in its updated form.
By 2010 Andy had transferred from HP directly to working in the HP channel for partners such as Kavanagh, Selway Moore and finally Keltec where he held the position of Principal Solutions Architect. While working at Keltec Andy was instrumental in the vast majority of their IT Consultancy Virtualisation implementations and quickly earned a reputation within their customers as “one of the team”. Andy’s IT Consultancy designs and deployments include a large, multi-site VMWare Site Recovery Manager solution for Nottingham Rehabilitation Supplies (a system so well built that they invited him back twice over the course of 5 years to expand or replace sections of it as the business grew), two large Virtual Desktop Infrastructure solutions for Gosport Borough Council and South Oxfordshire District Council that were based on Citrix technologies, and a sizeable resilient storage solution for a architectural design company that was based on Hyper-V.
Some more of Andy’s IT Consultancy happy customers include:

Andy also has a very good understanding of “best-fit” technologies, meaning that the best may not necessarily be the best for everyone and must fit both commercially and technically to maximise its return on investment.
In his spare time, Andy is an aerial photographer and operates several multicopter (drone) aircraft that carry SLR cameras. Although not a commercial operator he is heavily involved in the commercial UAV world and spends a lot of his time advising potential new operators on what is the most appropriate platform for the jobs they want to do.
Andy is also a petrolhead and so if he turns up at your IT Consultancy site riding a ridiculously large motorcycle, please do not be alarmed.
